Since 2007, Victoria has been the co-founder and CEO of Big Think, a media and education company focused on short-form, digital, and immediately actionable content.
Most recently, she has written her first book called Digital Goddess: Unfiltered Lessons of a Female Entrepreneur.
Now, let’s hack…
Victoria Montgomery-Brown.
Highlights from the interview
- [04:23]: Victoria explains that her tendency toward anxiety is, surprisingly, the key to some of her greatest strengths. She sees it as a differentiator that drives her to do things and take action.
- [07:56]: If she were to do things over again, she’d focus more on her work/life balance. As a founder, she didn’t always allow herself enough personal time to rest and relax.
- [15:31]: The world of web content has changed a lot since 2007, and Big Think has evolved with it. Big Think’s fundamental mission has always been to help people get smarter, faster. While the company has changed and evolved over the years, since its founding in 2007, the mission has stayed at the core of it. She explains that making money off a website now, however, is much more difficult than it was back in the late 2000s, because of the sheer quantity of traffic you need to make any money from display ads.
- [24:49]: Victoria shares her perspective as a female entrepreneur. There are a ton of male founders, but female founders are also becoming more common. She’s been interested in sharing her story with others, which led her to write her new book Digital Goddess.
