Back in 2014, Sharon Savariego came up with the idea to build a platform to empower Community Managers around the world. Needing help with the tech side of things, she began the quest for a tech co-founder, which she found and they began planning, raising money, and building.
Today, Mobilize serves as an online hub for over 1,000 communities and 1,000,000 members.
This is a fascinating conversation where we discuss creating compelling reasons to buy, why everything has an element of community, and honing a vision.
Now, let’s hack…
Sharon Savariego
Highlights from the interview
- [3:00]: Sharon explains the value of communities for entrepreneurs. She’s worked with a number of different communities during the lifetime of her company, from the early adopter community at the start, to brand ambassador communities more recently.
- [8:50]: Sharon describes how, as someone with a community management background, she found a technological founder whose skill set compliments her own. She talks about how they worked together to talk to people and explore the existing competitive landscape, giving them helpful insights that shaped their vision for the company.
- [14:30]: When she started her company, businesses were focused primarily on support communities, but not other forms of brand community. They had a lot of interest from people assuming they were similar to products like Lithium, but that wasn’t really their market. They focused on the customers whose needs meshed with their product, and they listened to all of the feedback they received.
