The success of Startup Vitamins pushed the team to want to branch out and start selling apparel, and they wanted to do it the same way they did with posters: on-demand. Unfortunately, at the time there were no services that would do print-on-demand apparel and be able to consistently supply quality products. So they created their own company called Printful.
My guest today, Davis Siksnans, is the co-founder and CEO of Printful, the print-on-demand dropshipping company that makes it easy for anyone to sell custom print products online. He co-founded Printful in 2013, to solve their own problem. In just six years, he’s grown the company from 5 to 500 employees across the USA, Latvia, and Mexico.
Now, let’s hack…

Highlights from the interview
- [4:40]: Davis talks about leading his tech team, and how they focused on product from the outset.
- [8:35]: How Davis and his partners had explored more than one hundred business ideas by the time they started Printful.
- [10:45]: When Startup Vitamins became successful, Davis wanted to expand into on-demand apparel. The only companies that would print shirts were small shops that didn’t optimize their services for e-commerce and didn’t have any automation in place.
- [17:25]: How his position as CEO has changed and evolved with the growth of the company. With more than 500 employees, his focus has moved from day-to-day operations to strategy and leadership.
