We know that in order to be successful, we must not let failure hold us back. It’s all part of the process. We’ve heard it. We know. We know. We Know.
When we stumble, we know we need to get back up and try again. No one is born learning how to walk, yet we learn eventually, by not quitting.
But what happens when we win a huge client or launch a new product? We may go out for a celebratory beer. There is nothing wrong with this, except when it becomes an excuse.
We have a win and five days later we are still basking in the glory of it. This in turn, ends up being as hard on our businesses as if we had failed.
Let’s try something I call the 24-hour reset.
Every win. Every loss.
Every positive. Every negative.
All of it gets discarded every 24 hours.
You launched your new product today. Congratulations! Today, you can pat yourself on the back and congratulate yourself on a job well done. But today only. Tomorrow you are starting fresh and need to create a new win.
Every day from now on, whether is was awesome or awful, is celebrated or learned from, and then reset.
Your mistakes and failures only count long enough for you to learn from them (and hopefully not do them again).
Your successes are celebrated (of course) but never allowed to diminish tomorrow’s hustle. You need that hustle to create more wins.
This is a simple (not easy) mindset shift that will allow you to start seeing the effects of compound growth through repeated wins and diminished losses.
Celebrate today, if it’s worth celebrating. You deserve it.
If it’s been one of those days where nothing seems to be going right, don’t worry because tomorrow you hit reset.
Go forth and reset.
